Mind-blowing!
Initially, I thought this is going to be one English movie which I cannot watch without subtitles, but as the movie went along, I was proved wrong . Deserves special recognition for the thought behind making this kind of a movie, which for the most part happens within one man's mind.
PS: I think I would anyway be watching it one more time (yeah, with the subtitles).

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
Apart from a few scenes from the Rocky series on TV last weekend, it has been a long time since I saw any movies. Yesterday's early dinner (at 11.30 PM) permitted for some entertainment time and I was all set with my laptop and speakers by my bed. After browsing Netflix online movies for a few minutes, I came across the movie 'The Boy In The Striped Pajamas'. I remembered the movie from a blog that a colleague had written a few months back (when i was in India). He had rated the movie very highly and before spending too much time on recollecting the storyline, I clicked on 'Play' and started watching the movie.
The movie is set around Holocaust during World War II and is about the friendship between a German boy, son of a SS officer and a Jewish boy, who is in a nearby Nazi concentration camp. The movie begins with a beautiful quote by John Betjeman - "Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows" and goes on to show the events and brutalities of the Holocaust through the eyes of the young boy. I liked the movie very much for a) the simple story b) commendable portrayals by the actors and c) because I love dramatic movies based on war. During the course of the movie, scenes from 2 other favourite films - Schindler's List and Life is Beautiful kept flashing in my mind mainly because of the similar dramatic setup in both the movies. I was googling for more information on the book that the movie was based upon and have placed a request for it in the local public library.
Bottomline - Movie after a long time, that too a very good one - I am happy.
